Time and funds for the necessary certification and training to make the leap. Thanks recession.
You’re so right about that. Those certifications are so expensive and then there’s really no time to do them with how much work we all have.
Honestly fear of the unknown. I may feel a bit stuck but I make an income that supports my lifestyle, live in the community I want to be in… starting over /somewhere new even in a senior role is scary. I’m stuck but comfortable I guess.
That’s exactly how I’m feeling!
The concept of the devil you know versus the devil you don't. I made a jump from one company I had been at for 14 years and was stagnant to a new company that I have now been at for 2 years and the new company is a complete and total chaos machine. Well I am financially better off today than I was 2 years ago I believe my stress level has been multiplied substantially
Hopefully you can find a better organization… they’re out there!

Need to replace current income
Life Coaching
Time & money. I don’t have the $$ to quit my job until I find a new one, as the primary income for my household. And with a two year old daughter, I don’t have time to dedicate the amount of time required to focus on changing careers, so I work at night as much as I can… expanding my network, messaging people for informational interviews and company experiences or referrals, updating my resume, my LinkedIn profile, submitting applications…
All of this.
Lack of significant connections within the industry I want to move into (tech)
There are local ones without fees.
I’m a mom with a young child and the flexibility I have with my remote position is too valuable to give up.
Understandable. Remote is becoming hard to find.
Not knowing where to start and no mentor.
Being pregnant. I don’t want to apply for jobs and then go on maternity leave within a few months of starting… especially if it wouldn’t be fully paid like it is with my current employer.
Location
This can be so hard… really wish companies would continue remote work. It opened up so many opportunities for talented people.
Having to go through the whole application process. At the beginning of the year, when I recently graduated with my Masters I was applying every day. Then, out of the blue, I got an email asking if I would like to interview. Fast forward a month, I went through 3 rounds of interviews and received a verbal offer better than I was expecting. Excited for the opportunity I stopped applying and now have been waiting 4 months to receive an offer letter. Each day is different, but I wake up hoping they will get back to me with an offer letter.
Note: Last I spoke with the recruiter was last week, so we do keep in contact, but nothing is set in stone, so to speak
Finding a comparable or better pay scale while also maintaining reasonable benefits.
Other things commenters said, but also I want to recenter and take more personal accountability.
Is the work environment irritating or am I being difficult with too high expectations? I think it’s a little bit of both and want to fix myself first before jumping ship and bringing that to a second workplace.
The pay and benefits 🙃
Salary.
Currently stuck in staying with the company due to tuition reimbursement. I don’t want to burn bridges therefore I’ll wait for a year and make connections.
Glad you’re taking advantage of that benefit and are focusing on making connections.
Money
My job has AMAZING health benefits. And for someone with health issues, this is a huge plus. Even though my salary is a LOT lower than what other companies are paying😔
I encourage you all to seek out professional help and guidance. I work with VP - C-Suite who are looking to make major decisions about their careers but I have colleagues I work with who work at any level. It’s an investment, but I promise you that the return is much more.
