Learn how to negotiate.
If the coworker is open to discussing it see if there are other variables that may explain some of the gap (tenure, experience, etc.) before addressing it internally with HR or looking to move on to another role.
If there aren't any reasons for the gap aside from they lowballed you and the other person negotiated a higher comp then you have to decide how to approach HR. I would advise not having that conversation until you are comfortable with the possibility of moving on to other options. I say that because if the negotiation goes poorly it will be a very awkward dynamic.
Awkward dynamic until they let you go for being 5 min. Late.
Find another job and quit. I don’t want to work anywhere where the pay disparity is that much. I’m so over it. I’ll just go somewhere else (I am in accounting though so I realize job mobility is a huge privilege you might not have). When they ask why, tell them the truth in a professional way.
If you are doing the exact same role and performing the same, you could have a discussion with your manager and see if there is anything they can do to equalise or to improve your salary. Normally this happens because men generally negotiate harder when moving jobs than women do (generally not always). Before you do that though, consider whether you can interview with a new employer and get a higher offer. I did this once years ago when I found out one of my colleagues earned over 30% more than me in an equivalent role - and I was furious - they matched but then they also increased their salary lol.
What does a "community manager" do?
Also what location?
Sounds like a b.s. job people with a business degree, sociology Degree?, or public administration degree have.
Also possibly phd pyschiatrist as well.
Not really accounting, although every community could use good financial skills.
Do you know if the co worker in question has a more "advanced" degree than you? Was in a specific frat or sorority?
Or were they in that community longer than you, or are they more attractive than you?
Are they more friendly than you?
I always miss on that workplace social one, but at least i know why i get screwed in work life. I refuse to be very fake.
