If you’re interviewing for a position that has had a lot of turnover (I learned this during the interview process….oops) and you want to ask about it, how do you do so tactfully and when do you do it? I’m curious whether it’s been voluntary, how long the people have been there, etc.

I would research this via LinkedIn, and not ask about it directly.

It’s also possible that attorneys will voluntarily share info during the interview process, and so it will be important to watch out for clues. An interviewer once mentioned a departee by name, and I realize now that it was a clue to contact them to find out why they left!

I think you can ask about it, if you aren't "needing" to get the job offer and a bad answer would be a deal breaker anyways

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?
