I'll be back from parental leave soon and I'm stressed about my billing expectations. I used to easily knock out 8-10 billable hours a day, but now I struggle to focus for more than an hour at a time (thank you, sleep deprivation). Parents who've been there - how long did it take to get back to normal productivity?

My daughter just turned 1, and I’ve just now (this last month) recovered from a noticeable dip in hours when I returned from leave for her. I had to accept that I would have to sign back in at 9:00pm-ish a lot of nights in order to hit my target for the day (and to finish my work on time). And accepted that my priorities are family, then work, and I may not have time to do other things that often (which sucks, but it is what it is). So if you have to work a weekend, even at night after they fall asleep, you do it. The sleep deprivation part will get better if/when you sleep train. Which parents differ on when they feel comfortable doing that. Until then, it is just hard. Try to sleep in (if you can work from home occasionally) to catch up. Just know it gets a little easier as they get older and hang in there! Also, your focus will recover - like a muscle - over time.

Have final round interviews at BCG tomorrow. I'm at S& right now at the SA level. Father had a sudden health issue come up this week and it's got me off my game. I'll ultimately need to support him financially for at least a year while he recovers. Not complaining, but has me considering just dropping out of the interview process. Is that crazy? Is the opportunity with BCG really so far beyond what I have already with S&? Is dropping a better look than interviewing and doing terribly?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?
