Walkability!!!!! It’s 100 degrees today with high humidity! Nobody walks! What I tell people is that it may not be the seventh circle of hell, but you can see it from any apartment balcony higher than three stories.
Anyway, the Heights and Montrose are less than 15 mins apart. I would personally take the Heights and bike, walk to uber to Montrose.
That’s a “I appreciate air conditioning” attitude.
I also love the walkability of the heights. I can walk to 28 bars and restaurants within 4 blocks. Neighbors are great and they actually hang out, you can actually make neighborhood friends here. Montrose wasn’t really like that.
Lived in Montrose for 3 years. Bought a house in the Heights now. Imo Heights is way better. Roads are notoriously bad in Montrose. And You have the whole 20th st. strip of bars in the Heights plus all the food spots are here. 19th st has some unique shops also. You won’t be bored.
Did the same and totally agree.
"walkability" lol
I think nightlife heights is better tbh, especially with Washington. If you want art scene, go montrose. You can also look for a place in the lower heights to get the best of both worlds.
Also can look at subleasing for a few months to give it a try before locking down a spot, I personally am subletting my extra bedroom and I am in the lower heights, if interested send me a DM!
All these Houston haters! I walk a lot and you’re not going to melt.
I lived in Montrose for many years and it was fun, but I don’t miss it. It was a little too gritty (that’s when Griff’s was still standing and the neighborhood could get….messy). I’ve not lived in The Heights, but everyone I know who does loves it. It’s where I would steer anyone under 40 (and plenty of people over 40, too). I don’t think you’ll be bored - it has good restaurants and a nice community feel.
You haven’t met my wife. She literally melts. Sweat pouring off of her. Now I have lived many places, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, LA, South Carolina, Tulsa, San Francisco and now Houston. Other than the food, Houston is a s***hole. But that’s just my view.
My best friend lives in the Heights. She’s a doctor. We walk to the bars all the time.
So for validation I have lived in both for over 2 years. Rented in montrose now own in the heights. 29M married.
Montrose, if you didn't know, is also the "gayberhood", the night life is a fucking blast but if you're looking for people closer to your age you'll want heights for sure. Heights has something for everyone at this point and there's a new bar like every 4 months at this point its insane. My recommendation would be heights and just uber to montrose whenever you wna that vibe for going out on the weekend.
It's only about a 15 min uber between the bar areas as well.
if you're working in the med center I recommend Montrose. your commute will be so much better. if you live in the heights you will have to drive up Durham or Yale or whatever to get home unless for some reason you want to take 610 or 45.
you can find rent cheaper in Montrose, I only pay 1150 plus a $150 storage unit
Look into Third ward. Close to Montrose and Midtown and relatively quiet neighborhood. Lots of houses with the same historic charm as the Heights, but a lot less expensive.
