I did LMR at Littler and I worked at FP. I don’t think it would be a setback at either firm if they had a need for labor associates. I would pick FP because the pay is higher due to the transparent bonus structure but I don’t know how much LMR the SoCal offices are doing. I know Littler is doing a lot there. Littler is a very “who you know firm” and if you can connect with shareholders who will vouch for you and help you then you have a decent shot at SH even as a lateral. Base pay is just above 300k for Level A shareholders, plus “matter responsibility credit” for cases you manage, but it’s a low percentage. If you’re at like ML type place now, the pay cut will be brutal for the same hours at Littler. FP’s base for NEP will be similar but you can make a six figure bonus there, unlike Littler.
Im at FP, happy to talk partnership if you want to DM. It’s very transparent.
I used to work for Littler- they do a lot of LMR so I would assume they’d be happy to have that experience. They pay way below market though and essentially don’t give bonuses so your salary would be whatever is offered. I think it may take some time to build relationships needed to make shareholder but if you had your office behind you and a good business plan you’d be able to make shareholder (or, even come in already at shareholder if you stick it out a bit longer- someone I know of recently did something similar going to Ogletree)
Littler is currently trying to build out its traditional labor practice even more, fwiw.
