Every CD should have a great eye for detail and design, whether you’re from an art or copy background. It’s necessary to move into the position. As well as an ability to lead, motivate, be strategic and present well. I’m curious where you work or what industry if you think this is something unusual or special. Genuinely curious.

So I think this person isn’t. There are many CDs like this all around.
Lolool the comments here are great. Question: do you not have any desire to learn these skills? Or have you just not had any need in your career to learn them? I feel like if I didn't have any of the actual design skills but had the eye for it, I'd be frustrated trying to direct everyone else to fulfill my vision. I'd recommend learning some of these skills, they're very rewarding!
If you’re a Copywriter, creative Director, it’s a strange statement I find to make. And if you’re an art Director, Creative Director, it just sound strange and arrogant. Those of us who went to art background, study, design, fine art, all aspects of it along with typography and most importantly how to concept- and busted our asses. So tell us more about where you work and what it is you do because it just sounds unusual/arrogant that’s all.
You can’t be a good cd unless you have an understanding of both crafts. And to have that you need to have some element of understanding of the technical skill.
An architect doesn’t need to stack bricks but he needs to understand how to and the science behind it.
If my CD was giving me visual advice and has no experience visually, I’d have a tough time feeling empowered to listen.
