First years are really not expected to substantively know how to do anything since so much of this job is learning by experience. That said, if the "mistakes" are the basics (sloppy formatting, typos, getting party names wrong, etc.) that's worth making a concerted effort to address. Working hard and being responsive are essential, but so is attention to detail (IMHO) to be effective as an associate.

Honestly, if you just work hard and are response you could probably make it to year seven or eight assuming nothing crazy happens
