2. Support for intl employees: both companies claim that they’ll transfer you to a foreign office for a year and then back to the US office, should h1b fall through. Is that true?

He started on and off with recovery always asking my help to try 30 days sober which I do to support but he consistently fail and avoids AA. I have been doing Al-Anon and it’s very helpful. Advice for young attorneys dealing with non-billable workload? I’m still my first two months at my firm but a ton of the work I’m being assigned is non-billable. I understand if I’m not still fully on boarded but how are we supposed to keep up billables while being given time consuming non billable work?

Had a 50-page settlement brief due today. My team is just me (first year), a senior associate, and a partner. The senior drafted a skeleton version last week and then went away on vacation for the last week. I worked on it for hours all week long, back and forth with the partner, and it feels so good to have submitted it finally! I’ve never drafted anything this substantive or important so the pressure was on, but it’s great experience! Definitely looking forward to the weekend now 😅

Advice Needed: Last month I was laid off from work, however, since have been able to secure another position with another firm (located 90 minutes from my house in a more rural part of the state) doing real estate closings. Aside from the commute and the work (not incredibly fulfilling or challenging) the job is fine. I do consider myself incredibly fortunate to be employed during these challenging times.

I'm looking to make the jump from a 10-lawyer firm to a mid-sized or larger firm in a major market, with just 1 year of experience as an associate. Is it too soon to lateral? Looking for more stability in workload and consistency in pay. Currently paid only when a partner gives me work... not ideal.
