IA is really hard to break into even for litigators. Your best bet is land a prestigious clerkship and then hop out to a firm that does a lot of IA.

Be a litigator for 15 years and get super lucky with timing. IA is an extremely competitive field with few openings.

I’m a third year litigator. The partner of my firm just started letting me go do trials, hearings, and depos by myself about 7 months ago. A judge I’ve only briefly appeared in front of 4 times has called my boss to compliment my work (they’ve known each other for years and go to the same gym, but my boss never appears in his court). Judge has asked me to go to lunch to “discuss” something, but what could it be? It’s making me nervous. What could it be about?
