let me tell you this … lots of broadcast producers who can only work large budget jobs don’t even know how to approach smaller social shoots. every agencies are racing to learn how to produce socials. make that your strong card… trust me
Hahaha “cutting corners” and “lowballing costs” is how we all do young grasshopper. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Yes - it’s more impressive to show you can work with smaller budgets and be agile. Like everyone has said - even with large budgets the idea of lowballing and cost cutting is the name of the game. If you’re at an agency, typically you’re trying to get more money in fee than in hard production costs that go out the door.
I don’t think the larger agencies would expect stellar work at your level. The fact that you have worked with challenging budgets will be your calling card. I’d do some research and find the agencies where you admire their work. Then, try to see if you can get an informational interview with the HOP or an EP to get your foot in the door.
When I've interviewed jr or associate producers at big agencies like McCann they feel completely stuck and unheard. You will have more responsibility and proximity to decision makers being at a smaller independent shop. + the promotional latter is more attainable by staying/jumping around smaller agencies every couple of years.
