I’m a pastry chef in a hotel in Miami making $64K a year. The benefits are decent, but the hours are relentless, especially during high season when 12-hour days are the norm and days off are a fantasy. I love the craft, but lately I’ve been wondering if the pay actually matches the toll it takes on my body and mental health. Should I be asking for more, or is this just hotel life and I need to suck it up?

Really trying not to spiral, and my practice group leader has been openly hostile to and dismissive of me lately. I haven’t mentioned my depression/anxiety to him because we’re not exactly getting along swimmingly, but I don’t know who else to talk to about my MH. Fighting with my wife hasn’t helped either. Really not sure how to handle it aside from counseling but that isn’t getting me anywhere fast. Thoughts?

I am two weeks into a four week booking but they said that usually keep freelancers on for a really long time. Right now I am only working on edits. I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. I now only make 0.50 cents more than even the lowest paid shift lead but I am doing a lot more work. I'm no longer satisfied with these conditions. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?
