I’m about to close on a fourplex, and my mom still thinks I’m getting scammed. I’m 27, work in marketing, and this is my first big investment. Anyone else have to battle family skepticism every step of the way? How do you get them to take it seriously?

Congrats on the fourplex! Sounds like you’re house hacking. What part of it does she think is a scam? This sounds like a sound investment assuming you did your due diligence and are comfortable with all that comes along with owning properties and being a landlord.

Why does your mother think you’re getting scammed? Is it because she just doesn’t understand the concept of commercial real estate, or is she pointing something out? I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and business people so I’m lucky in that I’ve had nothing but support in my ventures from family (who are often involved). So in my situation, if my mother thought I was getting scammed, I’d listen closely. So this really depends on the reason your mother thinks you’re being scammed. (Sometimes people who don’t understand something are quick to be nay sayers!)

If I had to guess OP is "house hacking" where they take a low down-payment FHA loan and use it to buy a fourplex and their mom is concerned about it because she doesn't understand the set up.

Ah. So OP will likely live in one of his own units. Not the arrangement I’d choose, but it makes sense if done right.

My parents have always been skeptical about the stuff I’ve done and after years of not listening to them, they learned that I wasn’t irrationally making decisions or doing things to just piss them off so they stopped doubting me.

They will always give you good ol - be careful, I hope you know what you’re doing, think of the kids comments.

People will always doubt if they don’t understand. Even after trying to educate they refuse to learn so you just gotta figure out how to live with it and believe that you are making the best decision

Older parents can be negative and have the wrong point of view. It can be forcing there point of view on you.

My anxiety makes me good at my job. My incessant checking, and double checking, and analyzing has earned me praise, trust, and early promotions. Sometimes I wonder, if I were to take medication to give myself some relief, and to stop the panic attacks, would I be less productive? And then I wonder, do I value my own health so little? But I’m so validated by my performance...sad isn’t it? Hope I’m not alone.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

If I'm adding multiple people to purchase a property but not on the mortgage, when do they get added - do they need to already be on the purchase agreement? I heard it's easier to do upfront vs. adding them later. I've asked this question in a thread but didn't get a clear response. If someone could please help clarify - how do I add other people on the onset on buying a property? This is a new build, buying directly from the builder.

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Happy to add more details as needed

Thanks

Y’all I am struggling on these “light” home improvement projects we decided to take on with a recent house purchase. Plan was just to replace carpets, paint some walls, and replace kitchen appliances. Now added on new faucets, other bathroom hardware / mirrors / toilets / medicine cabinets / exhaust fans, baseboard recaulking and cleanup, kitchen sliding door, ceiling fan rewiring and install, window replacements… how do I rein it in?? So stressed out and we keep delaying move in. 🤯😱😭

I’ve got a partnership w/ two of my uncles. We have two houses on rent. we use the profit from the homes as a single pot where we pay for the maintenance expenses (different cash flow from each). We are close family and they trust my judgement. Another of my uncles wants to join for the next home we buy. How do we split/ allow their buy in to our partnership for the next home? I don’t wanna add extra accounting of maintaining expense/cash flow from the next one we buy as a larger group Thoughts?
