Marriott is still better than the other options as a casual traveler imo
Also there are just so many more Marriott properties than Hyatts
Of you end up traveling 55 nights + and the footprint works for you Hyatt is then no brainer. Such a better rewards program- Globalist benefits can’t be beat and good return in stays from a redemption perspective.
For casual is do Hilton. Points are low value (but with promos and the right cards
Easy to earn. Lower tier benefits are meh, but as is the case with other chains.
I’m a Marriott ambassador, Hilton Diamond and Hyatt Globalist- will focus on Hyatt from now on as I’m LT plat at Marriott, and it’s east to maintain gold at Hilton with a CC (or Diamond with the hefty fee).
Hyatt treats you so much better. Guest of honor is great, those suite night upgrades that never clear at Marriott? Usually I’m upgraded to a nicer room without instruments.
Reward redemptions are much more reasonable, the Hyatt lounges are far better and breakfasts at Hyatt is typically a nice full meal not some worthless $10 credit. Add to that as a globalist they always seem to give you a nice welcome gift -
Often personalized like beers I like or something linked to a question I asked the front desk 2’ststs ago.
On top of that the Hyatt experience is far more consistent. Staff are well trained and are really service oriented- Marriott is sometimes the same but far more variable.
I’d just stick with Marriott, assuming you have some decent progress on the “lifetime” status earnings from when you were actively traveling. Better than starting from zero.
My issue with Marriott is how worthless the points are, so even if you hoard points with them it won't get you anything you want. And status isn't really special, either. Compare that to Hyatt where it's actually much easier to earn and spend your points. Hyatt's properties are better than Marriott's, and now that Hyatt has bought most of the AI resort collections in North America & the Caribbean, there are even more places to spend points for vacations.
The key with Marriott is consistency. I find all Marriott brands are cleaner and better run than Hyatt and certainly Hilton. It’s really not even close. I’m not traveling as much but I still default to Marriott and I don’t regret it.
I find Marriott employees are more professional and better trained, too.
If you’re not going to travel that much tha Marriott is the easiest to achieve a decent level. If you’re able to get top tier again then Hyatt globalist
Hyatt
