I’m at a big firm in Texas and our lit department is slammed. The lowest pace is probably 2,500 hours. We can’t hire enough associates to keep up with new business. Is litigation in Texas on fire right now or is it just us?

I got an offer in TCS with 15lpa for AWS Devops but also I got an offer with BMW with 18 lpa.Can I ask TCS HR to revise the salary as I have accepted the offer letter.Will they revise.

First-year tax staff that started end of Q3, and just had my first year-end performance evaluation meeting. I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?

Thinking about lateraling to Dallas as a PE M&A third year associate from NYC. Which firm do larger deals? Public M&A? KE, Sidley, Gibson, or VE? Can you survive at any of the firms doing 2000 hours?

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?

I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.
