If they find you a role elsewhere within the holding company, you wouldn’t get severance as you haven’t been laid off.
Look into your local laws. Depending on how the severance is structured (e.g. some places it’s meant to be a holdover for unemployment), getting a job immediately would reduce the amount that the agency laying you off is legally obligated to pay.
Was going to say the same. It’s messed up, but the severance often isn’t a severance and the minute you get another job, so long as it pays equal or more they are done paying you.
If your new role is not at the same holding company you should not have an issue with keeping severance.
My recommendation would be to offer to move forward with being laid off. Let them know the instability is upsetting.
Then ask when you can expect severance details.
Thank you so much! Will do this.

What holding company? Omnicom stops severance payments if you get a job within the network. So if you get 6 weeks severance and find a new job within 4 weeks, you effectively forgo 2 weeks pay. If it’s outside the network you can keep it.
Understood! I’m with Publicis and that’s what I expect they’re trying to do. Save the monies and find me a job within the groupe
Do you have any law friends you can talk to?
I do! My brother is in employment law and he said to ride it out until as long as possible until they offer severance and legally they don’t have to offer anything. He expects that they are playing it this way to save money
I was laid off from publicis a few years ago, and they tried to find me another job within the company as well, but weren't able to. They're not required to pay severance at all, so it's not guaranteed you'll get anything, although when I was laid by them off I got 4 weeks. If they find you a new job though, and you reject it, then they don't have to pay you severance OR unemployment, because you forfeited the offer. Even if you say "no thanks, I'd rather you lay me off than try to move me within the network", you're jeopardizing your ability to collect unemployment because that means that you willing quit instead of taking another opportunity with the company, so they can argue that you're not entitled to it.
