The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

L3/L4 NY you’re fine. Expect closer to 3 years for a promo and for your base to catch-up with the reduced equity (which is front loaded)
Compensation will drop in year 4 as only 12% of your initial grant is left. You will get refreshers but it won’t be the same amount of equity. This is called the Cliff.
To offset, you need your base to increase which can happen via promo.

Wow so i didn't expect all these follow up questions, this is the first job where I've ever been offered equity and such so I didn't know all this was important.
It's an entry level associate role for their Global Product Solutions team in NYC
Base is 130
Bonus is 15%
And the remaining 20.5 - 30.5k is the equity.
The application says that the base range is 93 - 136k so im assuming that this is a good offer, but again I've never negotiated this much money before in my life. I'm afraid I probably already said something stupid.

If the salary range in the job description is provided in USD for various locations in US, is the same range applied to someone in Canada?
The locations included NYC, Austin, etc and Toronto
