I live in SLC and work in tech - it’s pretty big here. Many companies (like everywhere else) have been doing layoffs lately, but I’d say still a lot of opportunities overall.
Moved to SLC from Chicago 11 years ago, and it was a little tricky for me to find work for about a year. I worked remotely for Sears for that year until I could break into the local market. Admittedly, my head might not have been entirely in the game at first, so YMMV. Like others have said, there have been multiple rounds of layoffs, but there are still opportunities — just be sure to research and discuss the financial viability of any potential employer.
Read up on Utah Business magazine and the nonprofit Silicon Slopes. They provide pretty good coverage of the tech players out here.
If you want to stick with government IT, there’s a big Air Force base north of SLC that’s always hiring. Most of the tech here is actually south of the city and not huge companies aside from adobe.
That's good to know. Thanks for the tips.
The Job market is very strong here. Look into the Silicon Slopes. Most of the Tech companies in Utah are located in Utah County.
What everyone knows this is going to be the next silicone valley. Amazon headquarters and Google headquarters is moving here!
