Cons:
- Philly is nowhere near as clean as DC.
- Not as many agencies to choose from if you want to be in person at all
- Much slower pace than NY which may be a positive for some
- Subway system is not great
- Eagles fans
- if you compare it to things you like about NY you will not be satisfied (says NYer turned Philadelphian)
Pros:
-Great food scene
-People tend to be more down to earth/laid back
- Fun bar scene
-Less expensive than major markets
-Convenient location relative to other east coast cities/destinations
Not really, I live in the Philly burbs and love that it’s easy to travel basically to any major east coast city in a couple hours. Got back from a broadway musical twenty minutes ago, fun day trip. Fun, easy weekend getaways.
Dating in Philly sucks. Moved to nyc and it’s much better (despite everyone here saying it sucks)
I lived in nyc and Philly and dating in both cities suck but nyc just has more attractive and educated people. Ghosts exist in every city.
Did exactly this move six months ago. I plan on moving back to DC after my lease is up in 1.5years. Living here has just been so very different than visiting
PRO:
- Have gotten a 2bedroom apt for same price as small 1bedroom in DC
- Lots of hospitals and doctors/nurses
- Cultural diversity is still pretty big
- Very close to NYC (1-1.5hr train ride)
- Very passionate people
- Lots of events throughout the year (similar to DC)
- People are here to stay for a lot longer if not forever
- Very small business friendly and lots of smsll business options
- Lots of mini parks around the city
- Gorgeous parks alongside both riversides
- Ton of specialty breweries
- Not pretencious (ppls first question isnt "What do you do")
- Traffic no where near as bad as 495 nor 66 during rush hour
PRO/CON
- Gentrification
CONs:
- Drivers go through red lights, down the wrong side (or direction on a oneway) road
- Theres not a single neighborhood thats decently/overall safe in the city
- Car breakins happen all. the. time. Nice cars, bad cars, etc. doesnt matter
- Super filthyyyy city (sidewalks, parks, stores, etc)
- Broken glass runs rampant all over the city
- People are generally very angry (I got yelled at for someone almost hitting on a side road when they ran through a stopsign and almost hit me)
- Crime is very common even in affluent neighborhoods.
...^ Crime in Philly for this year has passed both NYC and Detroit
- Lots of corrupt or uncaring police here (see news articles)
- Not typical to have beer&wine in grocery stores > its case by case
- Despite small parks, very little trees
- Most men in dating scene are either doctors or sports guy personas
To the few ppl msg'ing me (and OPs comment), good point and let me clarify re: dating lololol
For the doctors, the good hearted ones are mostly already in committed relationships. The single ones are typically the cocky "im a doctor; come sleep with me". >Those are not my type
For the sports fan, google "Philly Fans Celebrate Super Bowl Destory City" and watch videos. Or google the fan that intentionally threw up on an 11yr old. Or the fans that beatup another teams mascot, then later followed him to the parking lot and broke his leg. Or how the NFL stadium is the only one with a jail. Or the fans that bo... honeslty I could go all day. The sports fan here are rowdy even if not malicious to the above degree. >Not my type.
NOTE: This is just the majority of the guys Ive dated here.
DC is muuuch cleaner than Philly. Both the streets and public transit. But Philly is good for its affordability (depending on where from DC you're coming from).

It’s one of the largest cities and metros in America. If you can’t find a date, the dating pool isn’t the issue. It’s you.
Pro
Lol then what’s the problem? You asked if the dating pool was too small. Sounds like you were concerned about finding a date.
Just moved here from DC in July. Was paying $2500 for my tiny 1BR in DC and now have a brand new modern 2 story apartment. Like there are legit stairs in my apartment it’s still pretty wild to me. I live in Fishtown though which is a bit of a trendy area. People call it the Brooklyn of Philly. Personally I love it, it’s my kind of vibe but definitely a bit different than center city.
