I workout every day, and then try to read or do a puzzle every day to relieve stress. It really does work
Replace mental exhaustion with physical exhaustion. You will involuntarily recover from physical exertion but the same recovery tactics won't work for mental exertion. I find that 45 minutes of rigorous exercise at the end of the day resets my stress by reprioritizing my attention to getting through the workout. I can sleep off the workout, I can't sleep away the anxiety.
It's one of those things where you don't really notice / acknowledge it till it's already super bad. So if you can be more attuned to the early warning signs your brain is sending you, you can potentially step back or take other corrective measures before the burnout actually gets you.
Once it gets you, the only thing you can do to deal with it is stop doing the thing that's burning you out. And that's not always an option.
Don't let your mind bully your body into believing it must carry the burden of its worries. Go get some sleep and relax your mind.
Sleep, eat well and go walk outside. Even a 10 minute walk will make a difference. Your mind needs to heal. Make a planning each day and get dressed. 45 min of doing something (cleaning, eating, cooking, groceries, etc) and then 15 min of absolute rest. Do nothing and take it all in. Those are the first steps. Don’t think about the future. Now is al that matter to you. Be kind en gentle to yourself.
Write out everything that you want to accomplish in the next week. And I mean EVERYTHING, from work, school, family life, personal life, professional goals, personal goals, etc.
Do all the healthy self care things that everyone else recommends. But also train yourself to think less in terms of burnout, and more in terms of duty and grace under pressure.
You can combat the burnout. You need to give yourself a day or even half a day where you strictly do something you enjoy and put the tasks to the side. I know that seems counterproductive but trust me, you aren't achieving anything unless you deal with the issue at hand, the burnout itself.
