I grew up in LA and moved to NYC, so this is my long answer:
LA is a great hub for making professional connections. The creatives here also tend to be a bit more relaxed, but are still witty and smart, which can be a fun environment. Plenty of bars to bond with people over.
There are a lot of fun touristy things to do on the weekend, often low cost or free. Think: The Observatory, Museums, Beach. We often have concerts as well. You can also really ‘curate’ your experience to have a more family friendly lifestyle or more club/bar/concert.
You really can’t beat the beaches of LA, especially Manhattan Beach in my opinion. If you’re an outdoors person you truly can hike, surf, and ski all in one day if you really try. Though, most people split that up to one a weekend. You also can’t beat the weather.
If you’re into antiquing/thrifting the finds in LA are amazing. I highly recommend checking out estate sales (even just to see the beautiful hills houses) and the Rose Bowl Flea.
The main downside is the traffic- hands down. So truly be prepared for that. The people can also be pretty fake friendly, but I found that issue mostly in downtown LA & adjacent areas where majority transplants lived. If you want more of an authentic experience I would check out the South Bay and non-trendy East LA. People who grew up in Los Angeles tend to be a lot more humble & kind- similar to NYC.
What I loved most about living in LA was the beach and diversity of the landscape for sure. Mix that with great weather, and most days are enjoyable just to get outside. I also miss the Mexican food specifically- it’s everywhere, cheap, and delicious.
If you have any specific Q’s happy to answer & hope you enjoy it!
I think I need to move to LA…

Your experience in LA will greatly be influenced by where you live. You will be doing a lot of driving here and traffic is bad. You want to make sure you live close to your interests, ie the beach or shopping or hiking or whatever. Lots of great things to do here you just need to plan ahead.

I’m moving to LA soon for a job! DM me if you want and we can chat more :)
Just know that LA is filled with ex-New Yorkers who moved for a reason.
Where you live matters even more in LA than in NY due to physical distance / traffic. That said I miss it there! Would trade back from NYC in a heartbeat if I could find a job there.
It was the greatest move of my life.
