I always wait until an offer is given to me in writing before I introduce any variables (like needing flex arrangements to manage childcare) that could even potentially impact the offer.
I was interviewing for jobs when I was very pregnant with the hopes of starting a new job after or soon after maternity leave. Went into labor the day of an interview with Ogilvy. Called recruiter while I was in labor to reschedule. Called after I had the baby to firm it up and she asked me if I was really serious about coming back to work after maternity leave. Bitch, I had a baby hanging out of my vag and I was on the phone with you.... not serious enough? Anyway, lesson learned. In our industry you cannot be transparent about being a mother or having a life outside of work if you want to be competitive for a job. Also Ogilvy sucks.
How awful.
They do not need to know anything about your maternity status.

I emailed the recruiter back and said I was on maternity leave but to keep me in mind for future opportunities. 6 months later she reached back out and I’m interviewing. I think honesty is the best policy - having a child is nothing to be ashamed of or to keep secret. We are women and we create life - pretty amazing shit, really.
👋🏼 as do I girl! Still sending you love ❤️
Go for it! I take a look at every opportunity. And found a better company, work/life balance while I was pregnant. Sometimes these opportunities pop up and you just have to leap. Defer talking about start date until you find out if you really want it. You wouldn’t be the first or the last woman to leave a job right after mat leave.
Late to party, but I started talking to recruiters when I was around 38 weeks and completed first round phone interviews shortly after I had my child. Had in person interviews during my mat leave, got job offer and started my new job at the end of my leave. They knew I had a kid, but never disclosed that my kid was only 4 months old.
Remember, a lot of job interview process can take nearly two months from the first time they call you to the end of the process.
