I'm fairly new in to mgmt/leadership and still trying to figuring out the day-to-day. I continued to support the business in my prior production role for many months after becoming a manager. After training a new team member, I've been able to move away from production, which is great! But now I have a ton of free time. I've asked my supervisor for direction but not much help there.

Things I've done: Leadership classes, Employee development, process improvements, etc. Thoughts?

I passed CPA and have audit experience but I don’t really understand how industry accounting cycle works :( What does it mean to close the books? Are they referring to 12/31 deadline? Do all JE have to be recorded within this date? How does one close it?

Am I correct in my understanding that:

Over a certain income ($76k as of 2021), a single person CANNOT make tax-free contributions to a traditional IRA if you have a workplace retirement plan?

In my example, I have a work 401k, and my adjusted gross income is over (or just about hovering) at the 76k limit. This means I can't make pre-tax contributions to a traditional IRA, so I should just go for a Roth?
