Chief
Oftentimes you have to find another job to get paid what you are worth. Unfortunately they don’t reward loyalty or incentivize retention much these days.
If their experience and initials ( education, certification, etc…) outweigh yours then that may be their rationale. Otherwise the only reason is that the person is newer and is brought in at the current market rate. At my former employer brand new nurses were hired in making much more money than my 18 year experienced self with more education and credentials. Especially after Covid. My annual reviews were always exceptional but my raises did not reflect that and the cost of living raises were not great. The extra $ 1.50 per hour preceptor money was not adding up and neither did any of the other raises. The best financial move for me was to jump ship from the company I had been with for 18 years and move on to company B which came with a significant pay increase and less responsibility. Loyalty really does not pay off.
Do you get compensation for training the new hire? When a RN is training a new hire the amount of hours spent training is documented to payroll for compensation. Typically a $1.50 or more.
Look in the region you are in. See what other positions are paying and how many jobs are open.
You may find a better job???
Does the new employee have more certifications?
If the new employees has the same education, certifications and number of work years, then still look.
If a low number of open positions in your area, see when December comes around if anythings changes. I agree that budgets are done between October and December, keep in mind all budgets are supposed to be done before the start of January. There are some companies that have off end of year months, Siemens Healthcare is one that the end of the year is October, not December.
Good Luck, also get as many certifications that you can, this only helps you stand out and demand more compensation for your skill level.
Personally they can find someone else. That’s there problem
If the market you are in supports $41 per hour, and they won't adjust for you, you should find another job. You will most likely end up making more than $41 because you have experience.
I understand your frustration- but I would train this person- not their fault regarding the money. Then start looking for another position. Is the new hire experienced? Or perhaps has a skill set that you can learn from? what ever you do - don't talk about money or complain about administrative ppl
As someone will tell your manager.
Just be nice, and start looking for another position. Do not tell anyone about your job search. Go on LinkedIn
I had a free trial and want to join lacking funds. But you can connect with ppl in your community and make solid job connections. Wish you the best
You are an RN
