HA! For sure!

Both “Difficult Conversations” and “Crucial Conversations” tackle this subject well. Also, “survival of the savvy” is a good book for getting a framework for handling internal politics. Overall, I realized that it is not an option in the real world to avoid or be blind to politics - unless you are working completely alone and have literally nobody else to report to you or to report to. So if you don’t play the game, it will play you.

Thanks for the book advise! I'll definitely check it out!

Do all the boring stuff but then give an alternative that’s more your style. Point out how it’s better by comparing it to the competition instead of justifying why it’s better. You’ll look like you are making creative collective decisions all while really rocking the boat. So, continue to rock the boat but blame it on the waves.

Good stuff! Thanks!

When I worked in-house the only way to get ahead was to make friends with the right people and embrace the corporate culture. I couldn’t do either so I left.

Yeah I feel that. :/

People who manage ( Managers ) or Lead ( leaders ) , People, money, clients, takes risks etc would reach at the top and earn more. Any other task single handed, the creative task unfortunately falls into this would never fetch the position or incentives like the manager. You can either create ( new stuffs, enjoy the process but not earn much ) or Manage ( boring task, important, and earn a lot ). Exception to all this is when you start on your own and take bigger risk ( at-least try once for an year , am sure you must have accumulated that many paid leaves)

Attorneys with the firm often send firm-wide emails advising of in house openings with a corporate client, and solicit recommendations or resumes of qualified candidates. Usually the client contact is a hiring manager for the position. How do I show interest without completely shooting myself in the foot? While I ultimately do want to exit the firm, I also don’t want to be openly broadcasting my intent to leave by telling the firm attorney(s) that I’m interested. Thoughts?

Hi 🐠, need some advice. Was told by my manager that time doing research (for info related to my client) is not client billable and has to be charged to the overhead code. This strikes me as fundamentally wrong, esp bc this is a flat rate project so the hours will just affect my utilization / internal metrics, not how much the client is billed. I asked for a non-billable code that counts towards utilization but was told my utilization is fine even though I’d be billing <40hrs & to use OH code

I got hired as a freelancer on a project. 2 days in and we’re off to a slow start getting access to what I need. It’s paid hourly. I blocked out time to work a full day knowing I’d dive right in but that’s not how it turned out. My question is do I bill the full day even though I only put in a few hours of kick off calls and contacting folks to get access to the things I need? It’s not my fault they were disorganized. What would you do?

First our client walked to the courthouse to try to pay the bond up front, but they would not accept his money. He tried to call several bond companies, but all said the amount was too small. So how do you post an injunction bond?
