Mute notifications for sure. And I block out 2-4 hour focus sessions on my calendar at work and don't let anyone schedule something for me during that time. You have to be super diligent but it's worth it

Experiment with using your calendar in creative ways. You can set it to show you're in a meeting, even if it's a meeting with yourself and your work. Also ease into muting notifications, and get people used to the idea that you're not always available. A lot of times people don't even think about it when they fire off a message, they just do it before they forget. So it's not like you have to treat everything with urgency.

For me, I added everything in the calendar and this works.. I have a block "worked hours" where I focus on getting things done. I also have lunch, break, and office hours; these are important times I want to focus. The Office hours mean people can come to talk to me and ask questions. I found that having everything on a calendar and setting boundaries made people be more mindful of my hours and only talk to me during those times. I silence everything during my blocked time, and it works great.

I set myself as busy on Slack and answer people after I've done several hours worth of work. Not everybody on my team does this, but I'm trying to normalize not always being available. It may not be part of your culture, but you can be the example.
