How do they define their remote policy?
-Remote first culture?
-possibility to be remote
-remote days
Some companies are remote because they don’t have an office where they employ people. Or they have one or two offices and if you’re in the area you can work in the office. But most companies have a pretty clear remote policy. If it’s something they pride themselves on they should be very up front about it and why they believe in it. If they seem to be hiding behind words like “possibility of being remote” or “some remote eligible roles” then it’s probably very team/dept specific. Either way you shouldn’t be afraid to just ask what the in-office requirement is. If you need to commute to work that’s kind of an important issue.
Agreed, this is how I assess remote opportunities too. A real remote company is usually proud of their digital first policy and using it as a selling point to attract talent. If not, then there is possibility they can change strategy at any time such as a new CEO likes RTO can change everything

You can do your research and see if the organization is focused on being remote or mostly remote. There's no telling what might happen down the road, but if a firm is attuned to a remote culture they are generally open about it and probably unlikely to change.

If it’s a company ask where the legal team is currently located, how often they meet in person, etc. If a team is spread out across the country it’s unlikely they can unwind fully remote positions.
Uh, I said “I live too far from the office. If you want me to come in, I’ll need to move.” I would just draw a line in the sand if it’s important to you.
