I'm curious what the average salary is for an Associate Agent. I'm licensed & do everything after the sale is made as well as refer new business. I have 14 years in the industry but have been at the current company less than a year, so I know that plays a part as well. Anyone in a like-position by chance?State Farm Allstate Travelers

So long as you’re a B+ student and have a BA/BS with top 10% PT scores, there’s very few hurdles to getting a commission. In the Marine Corps, we can request mast (e.g. speak directly to the CO for issues like this). I’d prepare a business case and have your records and recommendations from your leadership all buttoned up right before bringing the case up to battalion.
Speak with the retention NCO for your guard unit. That person will be the expert.
I'll be honest say it just seems like your CO thinks someone in your chain doesn't want to do the work.
That's typically why things get shot down. The Reserve is full of lazy, incompetent people.
Do your research, find your own answers, and then fight for what you want if it's feasible.
Don't limit yourself to the ARNG. Check out the other branches as well.
Sorry I did not see this before I wrote what I wrote earlier. I don't remember civil Affairs officers being in the National Guard. And that may be where you're having trouble with your company commander. I was a civil Affair specialist in the Army Reserve and I remember that we did not have 38 Alpha in the National Guard at that time. I've also been out over 10 years so things can change. If you want to go to a 38 G, find your nearest civil Affairs battalion. The reason I say this is that civil Affairs is such a different Community to be in than most regular army or National Guard. 38 officers are just in a different world. Just like the operators are
Your company commander may have all of about 4 years in service, possibly all Reserve time, too.
I wouldn't hold a candle to what they say. Talk to an expert. Do your own research.
Also it would be helpful to know your PhD field and desired branch.
That sounds like the big green weenie for ya. Jealousy and politics have stalled so many great careers.
Someone can correct me here but I would talk with a recruiter, direct commissioning will likely require you to reenlist and you’d end up on new orders with a new unit.
I recommend going with the retention NCO. Recruiters may not know the details and also might not speak to someone who has already signed a contract.
Can’t imagine a Company Commander saying that with the shortage of personnel, including officers, these days. Could be jealous of your Education level. I wouldn’t let someone who isn’t in the position to make the decision on tmy career aspirations tell me no. Put in for the commission and let the board give you the answer.
