Get cross industry and cross functional experience early. Find what you enjoy. Include AI.
I highly specialized in coding in one language early on and it gave me such a strong foundation that helps me 20+ years later. Then data engineering and eventually data science. Added in AI and I'm able to have a conversation across every major practice area.
If I could do it over I would have picked better industries to focus on and would have sped up jumping skills, but data science wasn't super mature when I decided to go into data engineering so 🤷♂️. I delayed going to leadership, but now that I'm here, I'm okay with it.
Consulting specifically, you need to be trust worthy and have soft skills. You'll become invaluable.

Early in your career it may seem to hurt you a little as you won’t be a master of anything, but as you grow you’ll become a jack of all trades but a master of a few.
Follow the trends and don’t get left behind. Never a bad thing to learn as much as you can. If you double down in an area be sure about career prospects in that area.
