Bad idea for the dog.
Selfish. I am a single dog parent due to a breakup and constantly feel guilty for not being around enough even though I work pretty good hours and am high enough in the ranks that no one is telling me I need to stay later. Don't do it. And for the reword I am a huge dog and cat advocate it's just not fair to the animal though.
I take my dog to doggy daycare. It's definitely tough having a dog considering the hours we work and living alone- but I love my dog- and he's worth it!
Get a cat
I got a dog as a staff. Definitely very hard but so worth it. Everyone was super supportive and helpful. Just communicate with your team and make a schedule. PA shouldn't dictate how you live your life. Work isn't everything. Do what makes you happy but plan it out.
I had a dog. Had to give them to my parents. Otherwise, I would see them like 15 minutes a day at night. Would be unfair to them.
Maybe get 2 dogs so they can keep each other company while you're at work
Thank you for calling me selfish pcw1. I very much appreciate it. OP asked for advice and I responded with my story, no need for personal attacks. I'd rather give a dog some of my time rather than see her in a shelter or euthanized.
Bad ideaaaa
Adopt. While it may not be ideal with the demanding schedule, it is much better than living in a shelter. During busy season you can take him/her to a dog daycare where he/she can play with other dogs.
Get a cat. Even the neediest cat is nothing compared to the average dog. My cat was fine when we went on a trip for 10 days, dogs can't make it through the afternoon without shitting on your rug.
Please don't for dog's sake. Get a cat and it will be the perfect amount of interaction with you.
Cats are way more forgiving
it might not be as cushy as some other homes with people that work better hours, but its still better than a shelter!! Dogs are the best! Especially mine. You definitely need a dog walker though.
Doggy day camp!! Be prepared to pay the extra cost, I pay $30 a day but my dog loves it and I trust the facility. It's so worth it!
If you can afford the expense of a doggy daycare, yes. But if you can't, don't do it. It hard and you will feel guilty for not being there
Doggy daycares are typically not open 24 hours a day which still makes drop offs and pickups challenging especially if you are an associate or Sr. If they close at 6 it really doesn't help. And a good shelter or rescue would not allow you to adopt from them as they should ask how much time you are able to spend with the dog.
If you're working super late you may consider boarding for a few nights with a doggy hotel, most also provide the daily daycare as well, but it's like $50 a night and can get expensive. So if I were u I would hold off because you wouldn't be able to spend time with the dog and the cost adds up quickly. You should wait until you have a roommate or significant other to help you out.
@SAA1 I like the way you think. 2 dogs even better than one 😍
Don't do this to the dog!
