I'm thinking about moving into a government role from corporate accounting. What are the main differences I should expect in terms of work culture and job stability?

Government as in a federal job? Culture will vary depending on agency, department, and team. I personally didn’t enjoy the DoD agencies I worked at as much as the non. Stability as far as the role staying around has been good from my experience. There have been reorganizations at the agencies I have been in which hasn’t really eliminated anyone. In most cases, more roles are created or the work is redistributed. I have heard of roles being eliminated but they wait until the person in it retires/leaves. I have had to do a new probation for almost every agency I switch two and have never felt at risk of being let go or anything. I will say that you may have to adjust expectations if you are use to more advanced software and such. There are also a lot more steps in what seems to be a simple administrative process so it’s not uncommon to sit on your hands in the beginning. Hurry and wait mentality.
