I’m trying to move into FP&A, and I’m wondering if I should even bother putting CPA at the top of my resume. Some people tell me it proves I’m smart and disciplined, while others say it makes me look like a backward-looking accountant instead of a forward-looking analyst. I worked so hard for those three letters, and it would kill me to find out they’re actually a hindrance to my pivot. What’s the right move here?

CPA shows your intelligence and ability to learn at a higher level. Keep it.

Definitely keep it, I found it helped me land my FP&A opportunity!

I would keep it on your resume. If anything it will help you land a role. It doesn't make you look backward, ignore the people that are telling you that.

Why would you even consider removing it. You earned it, keep it! My goodness

Doesn’t FP&A utilize accounting and financial metrics? I would definitely state you’re a CPA.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
