I notified my mentors and managers that I’m leaving for McKinsey from D the day I got my promotion. So long as your story is clear (leaving for a great opportunity, aligns with my interests, loved my time here but this is too good to pass up, etc) and your sincere in your delivery then you’d have to be a real A-hole to hold a grudge over it.
Strategy and Ops (or whatever the new term was for it). Wasn’t too difficult, I had relevant experience which will get you the first call, from there it’s just a matter of acing the cases and the experience interviews and such. Plenty of big 4 and ACC folks here.
Withdraw? No. You earned it. Many people leave several days after promotion is effective. It’s normal and understandable.
Until later. But I’m currently going up for promotions during our mid year cycle and don’t have a lot of clarity into the timeframe for that. I don’t want to burn bridges by pushing through with the promotion and upsetting my mentors and supporters, but I also don’t want to give my two weeks until my start date is finalized with the new job. Do I withdraw my promotion case? I’m leaning towards pushing through with the promotion but I don’t want to hurt people.
The peers you competed with for the promo are more likely to hold a grudge than mgmt - assuming a limited # of promotion slots
