Only a real brief would need an NDA. Give them your day rate.
Yeah, don’t do that. If it’s a senior role you shouldn’t be doing speck work.
Or… submit a work contract for double your hourly rate with a minimum 4hr charge.
Agree with everyone. Why are companies doing this? Is this a way to get a bunch of free brainstorm ideas that seniors can try to mold? It seems sooo shady.
The NDA is super weird unless they’re sharing data with you. I’m in the minority here, but as a hiring manager for writers and editors, I need to see how a candidate handles our type of work. We’re upfront about this from the recruiter screen so finding out later down the process may mean they’re not sold on your experience. If you don’t want to do the test, offer to walk through your portfolio or samples with the hiring manager live.
I just had to do a test assignment and I did it and had fun with it. (and got a job from it) My advice is a little different. Do you really, really want this job? Then maybe you do the assignment a different way. Don’t give them actual work. Give them a deck that describes your insight and how your idea works. Tell them how you would do it/approach it, but don’t give them actual headlines/copy/visuals.
MASSIVE red flags all over this position! Walk away.
