$65-90K
I’m making $80k as an attorney in rural NY, and it’s my first job after a clerkship out of law school and staying home with my kids for 3 years.
In Oregon, our bar association puts out a “salary report” every few years that breaks down the salary averages of attorneys in multiple fields and based on years of practice. I have successfully negotiated raises using this tool. Would definitely be worth looking into for your state!
I’m in KY. I just saw a family law posting for 30-40k salary. When I first started, a insurance defense offered me 40k. I quit shortly thereafter and opened my own firm.
Are you in an urban or rural area in KY? Recently, I moved to a very rural area that has maybe 5 attorneys. I have never had this much business in my life. Cost of living is super low and due to having numerous potential clients wanting me to take their cases, I can require the full fee be paid upfront. Look to areas in KY not overpopulated. I have made more in the two months I have been here than I made all last year.
Right now, I would go to the best firm where you will gain the most experience and knowledge even though it may not be the highest paying job offer. Once you have experience under your belt, the job you have can turn into whatever you want to do career wise.
