It’s a drain. Private bathroom breaks FTW. Also walks in the fresh air frequently
Not maybe the solution you’re looking for, but try improv classes to build up your social resilience. I considered myself an introvert for years, but I’m not sure anymore after taking improv classes. I definitely need my alone time too, but I’m not as drained as I used to be from crowds.
Vitamin B-12 sublingual really helped me. I always felt lethargic and couldn't focus until I started taking it.
This is what I try to do, so Mileage may vary. If you can, take long walks or eat out of the office. Go get lots of coffees or say you are if you want an excuse to get out. And I do think if thr company doesn’t mind, if you are absolutely feeling too taxed, take your laptop home and work from there for the rest of the day. WFH is great, regardless.
A little 5-minute mindfulness meditation around lunch helps me a lot. Just taking a moment to leave the office, breathe for five minutes and pull my ~energy~ back in.
(Also— introversion itself isn’t a mental illness but personally, when I’m struggling with a period of bad anxiety, my need to ‘introvert’ triples— so sometimes I can use it as a ‘canary in a coal mine’ signal that maybe there’s something else I need to address. Know your mind! 👍🏻)
I totally hang out in one of the private bathrooms
Headphones at work.
There’s always that one person who recommends improv to an introvert. Hello, biggest nightmare. Anyway - I’m also hating the new office. I work from home a lot and everyone knows it. I find being transparent (with the people who matter) about my discomfort has really helped.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts. I think it’s worse when I’m stressed out. This week I got some work done at home then came in later. Seemed to help
Play podcasts all the time. I’ve found it helps because I feel like I’m engaged in an intimate convo with 1-2 people consistently, rather than dealing with 20.
Leo 1: Most of the people in my classes are introverts, some with severe social anxiety. Got to get uncomfortable if you’re looking to change. If you’re not - the just ignore it and don’t go. 😜
