Rumor and conjecture but the idea of getting paid more in a tangible way if you work harder/perform is very intriguing.
Don’t work there but I’ve read that people in FDD, restructuring, consulting groups can make huge bonuses like close to 100% of base salary depending on utilization and other metrics. I’m not sure this applies to any tax groups though but maybe they still pay better bonuses than other tax firms. They split their different teams into different entities at the firm so tax would have different rules than consulting
Ahh perhaps this is what came across as “commission” to me. Bring in a big client, make a lot of $ and you can pull in a bonus that’s half or more of your salary.
They have lower base salaries but significant bonuses...but this only applies to M&A tax (for their tax practices). If you're doing compliance, the bonus structure is not the same and they are much smaller than other firms on the compliance side.
MD = partner. Base can be a little lower than market but bonuses can be very large and pay above market. People are part time there. Culture is group specific
Correct. If that’s your criteria, then I would try to come on board as a Senior Director. That’s the level below md/partner and checks your boxes.
