Depends on what you’d like to do in terms of role and job level. I’m a former IT consultant who went to Bschool to switch careers and eventually industry leadership roles that’s non IT/ digital. From my experience, someone with your background will get traction from tech companies to play Prod manager/ prod ops manager roles. The other will be companies Deloitte and Accenture who’ll need you for IT strategy - again depending on what school you go to. Either case, mba doesn’t naturally allow you to switch careers because companies hire you for your past experience. That said, it’s easy to find adjacencies and move up from there. For comp, just ask the schools you are applying to for comp data by industry and role. Just another piece of advice - find work you love and feel passionate about and you’ll see enough money will follow to feed and keep fam happy
Somewhat, but the value of an MBA is eroding in tech. I was the other way around - had an MBA (borderline tier 1/2), got some solid tech experience working on prod development and 3rd party vendor implementation, and thought I’d find my way into prod mgmt at Amazon or Google. Amazon entertained the idea, but google didn’t trust MBAs, preferring straight up engineers. Caveat as always is “it depends” but hope that gives you some perspective. Today I’m in MC 🤷♂️
Not sure what your borderline tier 1/2 program was, but this was definitely not the case at my T9, we had plenty of folks with no tech background go into PM roles at Amazon (a lot), Google (a few), and Facebook (a few).
