I’ve placed people without degrees but it’s tough. I think it holds people back to some degree but you can still get a great paying job without a degree probably just not move up into a high level position within a large company. It’s more the competition you’re up against vs you not having it. Your competition brings similar experience plus the degree
Ignore the degree requirements and apply anyways. Unless it’s something like a CPA, most recruiters and hiring managers won’t care. They just want the person with the most relevant experience and proven track record.
Your resume may need more work. Not all companies use AI but they do need to be able to quickly and easily see that you’re a great fit. Be sure to bullet out your “skills”. Don’t include lengthy descriptions of your day to day responsibilities, but rather focus on accomplishments that have saved money, time, increased client satisfaction, etc. Quantify how you add value. There are amazing resources online to get a beautiful resume. Ladders and Heather Austin are some of my go-to’s.
I’m 2 years out of school working as a credit analyst when I intended on working in marketing. Personally I don’t think the degree matters, it’s more about connections and experience. There’s only a few roles where I would definitely want that person to be specially educated (doctors, engineers) but other than that I see the bachelors requirement as a gatekeeper for many of the intelligent, and hard working people who didn’t find that investment to be worthwhile
I only have an associates degree and have moved up based on how hard I work.
Does your organization have tuition reimbursement benefits? Perhaps you can enroll in an online undergraduate degree that you can complete at your own pace.
That's very interesting
Statistically yes. There will always be exceptions.
College is just a very expensive party that lasts 4 years. If you want to work in finance, read the lemonade stand book and be really good in Excel. This covers most jobs in finance.
Personally, I believe having a degree is less and less important. Unless you are going to be a doctor/lawyer, all education that you need to succeed can easily be distributed via online resources. I think universities are a glorified Ponzi-scheme that have greedy individuals at the top. I’m not saying there aren’t good professors at these universities. I’m simply saying if you think that attending a university is going to make you successful, guess again. Take a look at the revenue and earnings for Yale University, and you tell me if a university should be making that much money to educate individuals. I don’t want to be a skeptic, but people have to learn to step back and take a look at the bigger picture. My opinion.
I have a degree and it's done nothing for me. I've had to talk and BS my way into positions. Half the jobs I've had the people I work with don't even have degrees.
