Protect employer. Firm vs one, why wouldn’t you be inclined to uphold values. It can vary but the obvious is not being a hero

I totally agree with you! They are there to cover themselves!
HR is always there to protect the interests of the employer. Plain and simple

Couldn’t agree more
HR is not your friend, therapist, resource, whatever. They're there to protect the employer. Always have been and always will be.

Totally true! Not your buddies!
I’ve seen HR go as far as ignoring reported cases of harassment, and such, to keep things under the rug and employer out of trouble.
I’ve been with an employer that has done that too as well. Very tight clique of people.
Not trying to be clever or anything, but I've always said HR's responsiibility is to protect the employer BY helping the employees. Personnel policies protect the employee and employer. Various benefits aid the employee but also serve the employer by ensuring a happier workforce. I don't see HR as an advocate or adversary of the employees, but as an employee-focused department within the company.

Wow never thought of it like that! Good point!
HR is fully ghetto
Well, it's well understood that HR works for the employer. They are in the best interest of the company first. They are hired to create and enforce policies.
Yes true, but I believe some people don’t know that and they think that they are on their side.
First and foremost, I would say to protect the company. My HR department protects the company but is extremely pro-employee. I guess it just boils down to what kind of person they are and if they believe that the employee is what makes the company. I guess I am just lucky that my HR manager is available 24-7 and actually enjoys his job.
lies lies
HR should be there but, if we're going to keep this honest, you don't need a specific degree to be in HR so their competency to assist employees is not a high priority because they don't know how to in a lot of cases. The well-being of the employees is not a concern for most HR representatives because their job is mostly on paper and not in action.
I have personally witnessed many discussions where HR are forced by the employer to tow the line. In cases where they are clearly worng, they force HR to find a work around that remains lawful.
