Is it a good career move working as a senior financial analyst at Amazon? This would be a lateral move.

McKinsey & Company I received an offer from McKinsey & Company in 2021 and I’ll be starting later this year after graduation. Obviously because of the pandemic, inflation is slowly trending upwards. Has anyone asked for a base salary increase before even starting the job? Any advice on how to approach this?

I always like to move around. You can learn new things, meet new people, and get reenergized that way. Amazon is a good name to add to resume, especially if they pay significantly more. But if you are happy with the current job, then it’s also ok to stay.
That’s great advice thank you!
Amazon pays extremely well - I Wouldn’t be surprised if you aren’t getting anything above 135k TC.
HOWEVER their interview process is horrid. They reached out to me about an audit manager position a few years ago. I first had a 45 minute call w a recruiter, then an hour call with a potential team member, then another interview with a potential team member, then moved on to a super day interview that was 7 interviews for 45-1hr. I didn’t even get the job at the end - they felt I wasn’t qualified enough and offered something lower then Ghosted me.
The interview process was such a strain on me mentally. On top of that I have a friend who works at Amazon doing research and she mentions the culture is negative - the positive reviews you see on Glassdoor majority are fake.
That sounds quite stressful.. thank you for your input. It’s helpful.
There was a report on WSJ or FT a while back about the culture being cut throat. But AMZN may have made changes after the media bashing. Usually, I have seen people staying around in AMZN. I wonder at what stage you start getting stock comp.
I recall hearing something like that but thought it was only for warehouse workers. I guess it’s in all areas of Amazon workforce.
What is your offer at Amazon? Then people can weigh in
EY1 thank you… CLA1 I can see how that was a bad experience, hopefully that’s not the case still,. My hours right now is about 40/wk so would have to consider that too as it sounds Amazon would be atleast 45/wk plus.
If you feel like you are now ready to take on new challenges, then go for it. The uncertainty of not getting the right job/pay will always be there. It's up to you if you want to take the risk. Weigh all your options and priorities :)
After thinking this through, I’ve decided to stay with the current company! I don’t feel ready quite yet. I want to strengthen myself in few areas for now then reconsider this option in a year.
