Is it a good idea to ask at the end of the interview about any concerns they have about your fit for the role ?

I ask the question in a bit different way. “Is there any thing else you’d like to know about me so you’d know I’d be a good fit for this role?” Know is a very strong word but essentially you’re trying to figure out if you gave them enough to prove you’re the right fit for this role.

like

Me too! It sounds much better!!!

like

I asked if there is anything that does not seem to fit, and was told that I shouldn’t look for flaws in my resume and be confident. Got the role

like

I did it once and the manager told me I was a good fit. Given this was an internal position but at another location. I got the job.

like

Maybe consider asking the question a different way. "Let's say it is a year from now and you have made this hire, maybe it's me and maybe it's not...a whole year has gone by. What does a good hire look like for you? In other words, what does success look like for you? What needs to happen during that year for you to look back and say 'Wow, we are so happy we picked this person?"

likehelpful

I love this question. Gives you a chance to immediately address any potential concerns and shows you seek feedback even if it’s negative

like

No, this is garbage advice being pushed by all the TikTok wannabe recruiters. A better question to ask instead is “Thank you so much for the opportunity to interview with you today. I really enjoyed our conversation. Can you share what the next steps look like?”

In most of the interviews that I’ve had this usually leads to a conversation about my fit for the role. Basically the recruiter or hiring manager reiterating my fit to the role and then let me know that I moved onto the next step.

like

No. Do not ask this. Puts the interviewer in an awkward spot. And it makes you not sound confident that you yourself believe you are a good fit for the role. 10/10 do not recommend asking this.

like

Thanks guys! This really helps.

like

I asked this question at my interview, waiting to hear if I got it this week!
Good luck to you.

like

Don’t give them any room to doubt your ability or fit to the role. It’s essentially asking them “Why do you think I’m not a good fit for this role?” If they have questions they will ask you.

like

Also helpful if you frame yourself as being in that role, make them imagine you being that person

like

I find it a good idea for two reasons:
1) You get a chance to maybe change their mind
2) If you don't get the job, you'll likely know why (been in a few interviews that I thought went well, only to not get the job and have no idea why)

Wondering if anyone can share the approximate timeline after applying to Target Corp. to hearing something from them. Applied 9/1 and on the applicant portal the status still says “in progress.” I got a great internal referral, but I’ve not reached out to the hiring manager. 😬 I know there were a few hundred applicants — what’s a realistic timeline and what could I say to the hiring manager if I reach out to them. Many thanks.

Anything else that I should keep in mind during the interview process that helps me land better role/salary? TIA.
