I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. If you feel fulfilled with the work you’re doing and the company culture is one that will support that decision, go for it! You just have to be careful with some toxic work cultures that will find that kind of plan stagnant and like you’re not striving for greatness or whatever bs they want to say about it. If you’re content, reliable, and giving a high quality performance in that role, there shouldn’t be any issues.

@PDD1 I'm not too sure tbh. I'd ideally like to not be in the corporate world chained to a desk, like I am now.
No - you just need to be happy with your life. If having an easy, low stress job that pays the bills enables you to have the life you want outside of work, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that choice.
Same. I feel guilty about it a lot. I’ve been thinking about changing careers so maybe I will feel more passionate. But I’m also just not competitive by nature. I don’t know if climbing the career ladder will ever be me. If you are happy, then don’t worry. Your own happiness is all that matters.

I, too, have been pondering a career change to see if I'd be more passionate. My biggest obstacle is figuring out what to jump to. Unfortunately, some of the fields I'd be interested in don't pay too well.
I used to! And I did climb the ladder at my last job. Not interested in that anymore - tho sometimes I miss being important and a decision maker but I’m currently being paid way more to do less work and have less responsibility and less stress! I like what I do but the things I do outside of work are where my real passions and interests lie :)
Sure! I’m a social media analyst in the marketing area. Other people create the content and post, I do post analysis and insights and social listening to see what kinds of conversations consumers are having on the internet that are relevant to our products and brand.
I’m kinda in same boat. I don’t have any desire to be management. I’m good here. I’m fulfilled in my work and I’m paid well and I don’t have the stress of managing
This is my husband. No ambition at all. Lucky for him I have enough ambition for both of us lol!
Coach
I agree! I feel very much similar to him. I'm more comfortable being a subject matter expert myself. I think the world needs both types of people because we can't all be CEOs. I just wish it was more accepted in today's society and more companies didn't have the up or out mentality. I also worry about if I have to find another job, esp later in life, and how the lack of progression would be used against me by hiring managers.
I’m right there with you, but (like others have mentioned) I believe it’s outside hobbies that will kick start a passion somewhere. I’ve been working in the same industry, and even took a step down, for the past 7 years. I’m bored as hell, but it pays the bills. I’ve started doing hobbies outside of work that I was just thinking I’d play around with for fun and I’m realizing that it’s actually interesting and am considering making a career change.
If you think it might just be the lack of passion holding you back, seriously pick up a hobby. It really does help! Also, if you actually enjoy your job, the stressful times won’t bother you nearly as much as being stressed and hating it.
But also yes, eff being management. I was a team lead before and that was enough for me and I’d probably never want to move past that point.
Definitely, it doesn’t have to be something you’re passionate about. I’m not passionate about what I do. What I do is useless and it kinda sucks lol but you can also try to find something outside of work that you enjoy that can translate into something within the org you work at that you could potentially move into or career pivot entirely.
You don’t have to be permanently stuck at a job you dislike and can do this without moving into a management/higher up role.
I agree. I’m fine with where I am and I really just want to keep getting better at being me without climbing
I agree with what everyone has shared here so far. I can relate. I always come across something or someone on social media telling me to do more to get more. Sometimes it makes me feel low and sometimes it motivates me. I came across a video this morning though and am reminded that if I feel the need to compare myself, compare myself to the person I was 5 years ago to the person I am now. Honing that thinking in, I’m able to appreciate and embrace my journey more instead of comparing mine to someone else’s. It’s easier said than done. I have to remind myself a handful of times a day!
💯
Can totally relate!

Haha you made it all the way to VP, which is impressive!
Find a hobby that you really like and make it a career. I see people doing it.
