Is it common to have an assistant enter time for you or do most keep track and enter yourself?

I do it. My assistant can’t do anything. If I had her do this, I would spend more time answering questions than I would save.

likefunny

I know some partners who have their assistant do this, but I can’t imagine doing that myself. I use the timer on my billing software & enter my time that way. I feel like I would lose so much time if I estimated & then delegated the time entry to someone else.

like

We send our time to our assistants to enter. Attorneys aren't allowed to enter their own time. Which is honestly bullshit. At my last two firms, I could enter it myself.

I asked for access to at least be able to go in and correct my assistant's mistakes because she makes a lot of them. Only got it last week.

like

I enter my own time. It’s way more efficient. And at my firm I can’t even get administrative help with running reports so I can make updates/corrections.

like

Ourselves. Apparently before I started (in November) some partners were having their assistants put in their time but the OMP put a stop to it because it was a waste of resources. All associates I know were always putting in their own time.

like

We have partners who adhere to the old system but honestly waste of resources

My assistant enters my time and has since I was a summer. She would rather enter it correctly that day than have to fix it at the end of the month to make sure it complies with client preferences.

my assistant enters my time. I write it all down, she inputs it in our system and handles billing codes if they are necessary for a particular client.

like

I used to enter it myself, but I have a bunch of cases that want task-coding and it takes FOREVER. I could waste an hour entering two days’ time. So I farm it out to my asst now. She doesn’t do much else for me, so I might as well have her do that.

I'm trying to frame my answer to the leadership question. I once talked to my mom about how I was selected as CEO in a group project. It was because of my strong technical skills+connections(I already know 80% of the group)+activeness. My mom said that's exactly what she values in the professional setting. Can I answer the question in this way during interviews? I feel like it's not the common approach since this answer does not involve any specific actions, but could potentially stand out.
