« The market’s been so uncertain that some people have changed jobs every year or two. »
Why would people change jobs in an uncertain market?
These kind of job changes without explanation usually either mean they got fired or that they do not have the resilience to keep going for a bit (caveat for abusive situations of course).
The problem with this is the ramp up and down period. At a certain point you start to lag behind in experience but still expect the same pay and the more you repeat it, the unhappier both sides are going to be.
Yes. Unless an attorney is very experienced (partner level, maybe counsel), we expect it will take a year before an attorney will truly have their feet under them and bring true value. The best associate I ever worked with was mediocre for about 6 months and they started to improve. Was fantastic from about 12-15 months onward. If you are job hopping every year or every two years, it makes it harder for a hiring attorney to see the value you may bring because they assume you will leave again in a year or two
Eh
