Is it just me or has product design leadership been lacking lately. I’ve noticed that at my company, our Design VP and Design Directors have a poor understanding of product design. They come from graphic/editorial/marketing/print design backgrounds and they think they understand product design. It’s incredibly frustrating to work under them. They seem overly focused on the static layout of designs but say nothing about the rest of the user experience. Does anyone else deal with this?

I am having a difficult time meeting the expectations of the role because of my previous roles lack of management and more junior role responsibilities. Is it normal for a Product Owner to lay out specs for how a feature should work?

I thought that was my job as the ux designer to figure out the best way to solve a need. But I’m getting handed projects where the PO, and sometimes the senior designer has laid out exactly what should happen (components used, flow, etc) to design a feature. It’s really frustrating because I don’t know if I’m supposed to be speaking up on what I think or just do the UI work I’m asked to.

Question from a recent UX Bootcamp grad: I currently have a single case study in my portfolio. Upon reading somewhere that 2 case studies are required to be considered by recruiters, I stopped applying to jobs for about 2 months as I work on a second case study when I can.
