The Google one is probably a good start, but definitely not enough IMO. They’re siloed projects and UX is all about collaborating with other stakeholders (PM, Devs, etc). These are things that you’ll definitely be asked in interviews and are expected of you even if you’re a junior. And can’t forget actual metrics to show your impact. It will also help you stick out from the sea of other career pivoters trying to get their foot in.
The best way to learn is to get hands on experience, and if you are able, to volunteer for nonprofits or look for friends and family who may need your help for a business, etc that you could turn into a real case study.
Even with 4 years of graphic design experience (no degree though), it took me 4 months to land a role (not including time spent volunteering to build case studies, portfolio, networking etc). Honestly it was brutal 💀 but 100% worth it if you know it’s what you want to do.
I see someone from Google liked this. I actually got my Google UX Certificate!
One piece of advice: regardless of what Boot Camp/course/certificate you take, make a portfolio that is different than the one they will ask you to make as a part of the course. I recently went through like a hundred portfolios for a junior design hire, and they are all identical. Same three projects, same format, same layout. It won’t get you hired, but it will at least get the person looking through them to notice you.
