Accountants are constantly juggling deadlines, handling high-pressure situations, and dealing with a lot of detail-oriented work. It’s tough even without the busy seasons. I think the constant stress and long hours can really take a toll. Burnout is real in this field
And the future has been sold to private equity
So.... youre asking if people are burnt out because of being overworked? Do people get burnt out because of lack of work?
When your an associate through manager everything is a have to
You’re never given enough training and are always chasing deadlines and high expectations
What professions or industries have less burnout? Just curious
The ones that have a set number of reasonable hours and don’t have constant pressure to meet unrealistic deadlines with not enough staff, probably.
It's not just public accounting that has grueling workloads. I saw a study last year that showed 99% of surveyed accountants reported burnout. 99%! Unfortunately, our professions is an underappreciated one and largely thankless. The norm is to be overworked, underpaid, and treated like a robot. It's not a shocker that the labor pipeline is shrinking.
Senior Associate 1, I started doing some project work as a contractor through Vaco Staffing when I was looking to move metro areas post Covid. A little while later, a former boss started an advisory firm and asked if I'd be interested in joining them. It was pretty much through my personal network but there are more and more firms that provide fractional services now. Like any other accounting role, it is very dependent on your team and clients. I like the client I primarily serve but my boss (not the friend that connected me) is very old school and we do not see eye to eye on leadership, communication, etc. It's a mixed bag like any other accounting role I've had.
Soft.
Jk everyone has different tolerances and you build your tolerance as you go. I knew super smart folks in college who couldn't hack the big 4 or the cpa exam. Different strokes for different folks. Shit ain't easy.
