Posting about AI on LI is the low-hanging-fruit of appearing relevant or useful. Which is why they are posting. Lots of noise.
It's more to do with in house use of AI and headcount than law firms
If by “business as usual” you mean that AI needs have consumed the entirety of my practice as an energy M&A lawyer over the last year then yes. I’m still busy as hell, it’s just for different reasons.
Enthusiast
No, I mean claims that AI operations are undermining law firm practices like billable hours.
Mentor
100%, except for the occasional subpar work product caused by AI use.
90% of the time it’s a CEO trying to shill their claude wrapper.
Our clients are pushing hard to see price reduction or AFAs for AI use. We've implemented many AI programs at my firm. Tons of trainings.
It's not BAU at all when boomer partner in his 70s is talking about IVO, Harvey, and Chat.
Don’t thinks it’s BAU but it’s also not time for AI doomerism destroying BigLaw as we know it. Among compute constraints, the gatekeeping and highly regulated nature of our profession, security and confi concerns around client info, the still-developing nature of the product itself, I think the nature of AI over the next decade will likely push lawyers to be far more efficient with their time (e.g. a first year isn’t going to spend 5 hours of their day clean reading a 60 page agreement/brief/motion etc) but I don’t think it’s going to completely remake the entire BL landscape overnight.
I’ve only been able to use AI for one thing: summarizing depositions. Even then it leaves out a lot. I’m finding it can’t perform very simple tasks and it’s mind boggling.
