“My audio is far more reliable if I keep video off.”
It’s fine but if you do it too much ppl will think ur sus
I've only turned my camera on once in my 1 year at my firm 😆 for virtual meetings.

I never turn mine on...even when everyone else chooses to. Unless you tell me it’s a requirement (which I have no hesitation to push back and ask why), I’m not turning it on.

Worked from home 2 weeks of the month. Traveled for the remainder of the time.
Depends on the type of meeting/what expectations are set. If you’re the only one off video without a reason, it’s odd - if others are off video it’s more acceptable. For my projects, client-facing is video on to help build the relationship/feel like a team. Internal is more relaxed and mixed bag - it’s also an opportunity for ppl to back away from zoom and go off vid if they need a break.

Why don't you feel comfortable?
My teams usually do, as it's a way for us to stay connected. I set the expectation pretty early that I don't care what you're wearing or how you're groomed (I tried to lead by example here 😂)
Op Put on some clothes and get a fawkin haircut. Consider this a warning. :)
I turn on my camera if it’s a small group and I will be participating vs. listening only. In medium size meetings, I’ll turn it on upon arrival, but then when the speaking starts, I’ll turn it off if I’m not actively speaking and turn it on when I plan to speak up. If it’s a huge meeting or listen only, it’s off.
One advantage of being on camera is it forces you to focus on the discussion and actively listen/engage. It’s also an opportunity to show that you’re intending to participate and add value, to be visible, noticed.

Good approach!
If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t turn it on. We have a team member that rarely if ever turns hers on and everyone else will, I personally respect that choice and no one has ever said anything
I never turn my cam on even when asked lol

I find it far easier to accommodate requests from a person than from a talking icon personally.
It's better to have it on imo, but it's only one aspect of doing a good job, maybe quite a small one
Talking or presenting to blank screens or photos is really tough. It’s basically trying to have a conversation with a group whose backs are turned to you. Please keep that in mind when making your camera decisions.
